LMI shapes up its finances with Microsoft Dynamics AX

The Situation

As the largest group fitness provider in the world, Les Mills International (LMI) is a global company encompassing numerous agencies and subsidiaries. With a complex and geographically diverse business structure, LMI needed an ERP system that could provide a single point of information and truth right across its global operations.

LMI went out to the market for a solution and a partner to address this, and Microsoft Dynamics AX and Intergen were chosen as the right fit for the exercise.

The Pain

Before going to market for a new ERP system, LMI was running 12 different companies, in New Zealand and beyond, using MYOB, a package designed for small businesses and sole traders. Managing this level of activity proved to be manual and arduous, with inconsistent processes and data that was unreliable and couldn’t be viewed centrally or called upon in a timely manner.

As a result, a lot of time was spent managing disparate spreadsheets and a number of offline processes. The generation of month-end reports was a labour-intensive and lengthy process, leaving little time for the analysis of their financial information. This constrained view of information also meant that critical business information was gathered based on assumptions rather than hard and fast data.

The Gain

Seven months since the project started it was delivered “to the day and to the dollar,” Neville says, “and we got what we wanted. Intergen makes it easy to do business with them.”

With AX now firmly bedded in, staff have a connected, consistent and standardised way to process their financial information. They also have an unprecedented ability to report against various entities, drawing on up-to-date and complete data. With consolidated and centralised information, late nights at month-end are now a thing of the past. And while month-end reports can’t quite be generated ‘at the push of a button’ they have gone from a 20-day cycle to a 12-day cycle, with the goal of getting this down to three days.

With strong foundations now in place, LMI can focus its attentions systematising its internal processes to assist with growth and driving business efficiencies right across the enterprise.
